This Privacy Policy explains how yardgaragesale.com ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you create an account, list a sale, or buy an item.
Information we collect
- Account details — your name, email address, and mobile phone number.
- Security data — a one-way hashed password and the records needed to verify your phone and sign you in.
- Listings — the sales and items you publish, including photos, prices, descriptions, and the sale location you provide.
- Payments — card payments are processed by Stripe; we do not see or store your full card number.
Mobile messaging (SMS) & two-factor authentication
We use your mobile phone number to send one-time verification codes (2FA) that confirm your phone at sign-up and protect your account when you sign in from a new device. These are transactional security messages — not marketing.
- We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your mobile number with any third party, affiliate, or other messaging program or campaign for their marketing purposes. Phone numbers are used solely to deliver your verification codes.
- Message frequency: messages are sent only when you request them — when you create your account and when you sign in from a new or unrecognized device. We do not send recurring or promotional texts.
- Message and data rates may apply. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply to the texts you receive.
- Opt-out / help: reply STOP to any message to opt out of SMS (note that 2FA is required to use the account, so opting out may prevent sign-in), or reply HELP for assistance.
Mobile information is never shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account (including phone verification and 2FA).
- To publish your sales and items and show them to nearby shoppers on the map.
- To process payments (via Stripe) and notify you and buyers about orders.
- To send essential account and transactional email and SMS.
How we share information
We share only what is necessary to operate the service — for example, payment details with Stripe to process a sale, and buyer/seller contact information between the two parties to complete a transaction. We never sell your personal information, and we never share mobile phone numbers for third-party marketing.
Data retention & security
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. Passwords are stored hashed, and verification codes are stored hashed and expire quickly.
Your choices
You may update your account information from your dashboard or request deletion of your account by contacting us. Opting out of SMS may limit your ability to sign in, since two-factor authentication is part of account security.
